FedNow vs RTP: Can US Online Casinos Pay Winnings 24/7 in 2026?

Bank payments in the United States no longer have to stop for weekends, public holidays or the end of the business day. FedNow and the Real-Time Payments network can transfer money between eligible bank accounts within seconds at any hour. This means a licensed US online casino can technically send an approved withdrawal to a player’s bank account on Saturday night or early on a public holiday. It does not mean that every withdrawal is instant. The casino must first approve the request, its payment provider must support an instant route, and the receiving bank must be able to accept the transfer. In this article, RTP refers to The Clearing House’s Real-Time Payments network rather than the return-to-player percentage used to describe casino games.

How FedNow and RTP Move Online Casino Payouts

FedNow is an instant payment service operated by the Federal Reserve. It became operational in July 2023 and is available to eligible US banks and credit unions. RTP is a separate instant payment network operated by The Clearing House and has been running since 2017. Both services operate continuously, allowing participating financial institutions to clear and settle payments at night, at weekends and on public holidays. Funds are normally available to the recipient within seconds after a valid transaction has been accepted. As of 2026, both networks have a maximum network transaction value of $10 million, although banks, payment providers and casino operators may impose substantially lower limits.

Neither FedNow nor RTP is a banking app or a payment option that an individual can open directly. The Federal Reserve does not provide personal FedNow accounts, and The Clearing House does not accept payment instructions directly from casino customers. Access is provided through participating financial institutions and authorised service providers. A casino payout therefore passes through several parties: the operator approves the withdrawal, a payment provider submits the instruction through its banking relationship, and the recipient’s bank credits the player’s account. The underlying network may remain invisible throughout this process.

A casino does not necessarily need a direct technical connection to either network. Payment companies can check whether the recipient’s bank account is eligible for an instant credit and route the payment through FedNow or RTP when supported. Some US payment providers already offer gaming businesses direct-bank products that cover both deposits and withdrawals. The casino cashier may describe the method as online banking, instant bank transfer or Pay by Bank rather than naming the settlement network. This arrangement allows an operator to offer faster withdrawals without requiring players to understand which banking infrastructure is being used.

What a Player Actually Sees When Cashing Out

Most players will not be asked to choose between FedNow and RTP. They select an available bank withdrawal method and provide or confirm their account details. The casino’s payment provider then determines whether the transaction can be sent instantly. Routing can depend on the operator’s bank, the recipient bank’s capabilities, the player’s location and the payment provider’s commercial arrangements. Two customers using the same casino may therefore receive different withdrawal speeds because their banks support different services.

A receiving bank does not always need full sending capability for a player to benefit. Many institutions initially join instant payment networks in a receive-only capacity. Such a bank can accept an incoming casino payout even if its customers cannot initiate outgoing FedNow or RTP transfers. This distinction is important because a banking app may not display a button for sending instant payments, yet the account may still be eligible to receive them. The player should ask the bank whether incoming FedNow or RTP credits are supported rather than relying only on the transfer options shown in the app.

When an instant route is unavailable, the withdrawal may be sent through ACH, a debit-card payment, an e-wallet, a bank wire or another supported method. These alternatives can remain subject to business-day processing. DraftKings, for example, states that its US online-banking withdrawals may take up to two business days, while eligible debit-card withdrawals may take up to 24 hours. Its bank wires are initiated from Monday to Friday and can be affected by weekends and banking holidays. This illustrates why access to 24/7 payment infrastructure has not removed traditional payout times from the US market.

Why a 24/7 Network Does Not Guarantee a 24/7 Withdrawal

FedNow and RTP control the transfer between financial institutions, not the casino’s approval process. A withdrawal cannot enter either network until the operator releases it. Before doing so, the casino may need to verify the player’s identity, confirm ownership of the payment account, review deposit history and check whether the balance is eligible for withdrawal. A request submitted at 11 p.m. can therefore remain pending inside the casino account even though the banking network is fully operational. Once the review has been completed and the instruction has been sent through an instant route, the bank-to-bank stage may take only seconds.

US gambling payments are also affected by federal rules and individual state laws. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act does not create one nationwide definition of legal online gambling. Instead, it prohibits businesses from knowingly accepting payments connected with unlawful internet gambling while preserving state authority to permit and regulate qualifying activity. Regulation GG requires relevant financial firms to maintain policies intended to identify and prevent restricted transactions. A bank or processor must therefore establish that it is serving an authorised gambling business in an applicable jurisdiction before supporting its payments.

This legal structure means the technical ability to send a payment is only one part of the decision. A bank may support FedNow or RTP but decline transactions connected with certain gambling businesses because of its internal risk policy. A payment provider may operate in one regulated state but not another. The player must also use a casino approved by the relevant state authority. New Jersey, for example, publishes a list of authorised internet gaming sites and states that sites absent from that list are not approved to offer internet gaming in the state. Instant banking infrastructure does not make an unlicensed operator lawful or give its customers the protections available in a regulated market.

Compliance Checks That Commonly Delay a Withdrawal

Identity verification is one of the most common reasons a first withdrawal takes longer than later requests. An operator may require two-factor authentication, a government-issued identity document or confirmation of the customer’s registered address. The name on the casino account normally has to match the name on the bank account. DraftKings states that customers using online banking must withdraw to an account in their own name and cannot use a business bank account. It also requires a previous qualifying deposit before that bank account becomes available as a withdrawal destination.

The operator may also return money to the method originally used for the deposit. This helps prevent stolen cards, unauthorised bank transfers and the use of a casino account as an informal money-transfer service. A newly added bank account, a recently changed address, an unsuccessful deposit or a payment method belonging to another person can lead to further checks. If a bank declines the incoming withdrawal, the money may have to travel back to the operator before the player can select another method. DraftKings warns that a declined online-banking withdrawal can take 10 to 12 business days to return to the customer’s gaming balance.

Unusually large withdrawals and activity that differs sharply from the customer’s normal behaviour may also receive additional attention. Instant payments are designed to settle quickly, so banks and payment providers place considerable emphasis on checks carried out before money is sent. In April 2026, the Federal Reserve introduced a FedNow network intelligence tool that gives participating institutions additional receiver-account information for payment risk assessments. Such controls can reduce fraud, but they also reinforce an important point for players: the fastest settlement network cannot remove a legitimate review that must take place before the transaction is released.

FedNow vs RTP for US Casino Withdrawals in 2026

For an ordinary casino withdrawal, the two networks provide similar customer-facing results. Both operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Both can deliver funds within seconds and both had a $10 million network transaction limit by 2026. The limit is not a promise that a casino will allow a $10 million withdrawal. Operators and payment providers set their own maximums, which can be far lower. DraftKings, for instance, lists a $100,000 per-transaction limit for its standard online-banking withdrawal method. Daily limits, enhanced checks and state-specific rules may impose further restrictions.

FedNow has expanded quickly across US financial institutions. Federal Reserve Financial Services reported more than 1,500 participating institutions by the end of 2025 and continued updating its participant records during 2026. RTP remains the more established network by transaction volume. The Clearing House reported that more than 1,280 institutions were participating by June 2026 and that RTP handled the large majority of US bank-to-bank instant payment volume. FedNow may provide access where RTP is not available, while RTP’s longer operating history gives many payment providers an existing route for commercial disbursements.

There is therefore no universal winner for casino customers. The better network is the one that connects the operator’s payment provider with the player’s bank at the moment the payout is sent. A provider supporting both can select an eligible route without asking the player to make a technical choice. Coverage is more important than the name of the network. A customer whose bank accepts only FedNow may receive a FedNow credit, while another customer of the same casino may be paid through RTP. If neither route is available, the transaction must use a slower alternative.

How to Improve the Chance of a Same-Day Bank Payout

The first step is to use an operator authorised in the state where the customer is physically located. Account verification should be completed before a large win occurs, not after the withdrawal request has been submitted. The registered name, residential address, date of birth and bank-account ownership details must be accurate and consistent. Customers should respond promptly if the operator requests an identity document or additional payment information. Completing these checks early cannot guarantee an instant payout, but it can remove several common reasons for a request to remain pending.

At the cashier, the customer should look for wording such as real-time online banking, instant bank withdrawal or Pay by Bank. A generic bank transfer may still use ACH and take one or more business days. It is also worth confirming whether the receiving bank accepts incoming FedNow or RTP payments. Customers should avoid changing bank details immediately before requesting a withdrawal unless the change is necessary. A new account may need to be verified or linked through a qualifying deposit before the operator permits money to be sent to it.

As of July 2026, true 24/7 casino bank payouts are possible in the United States, but they are not available to every player or from every licensed operator. FedNow and RTP have solved the problem of banking networks closing overnight or at weekends. They have not removed identity checks, state gambling rules, payment-provider restrictions or individual bank policies. The most accurate expectation is conditional: an already verified withdrawal can reach an eligible bank account within seconds after release, while a request requiring manual review or an ACH fallback may still take hours or business days.
